DICE at ‘For Devs’ Game Summit Sweden - challenging the way we collaborate and innovate
We are getting ready for the second 'For Devs' Game Summit Sweden, where Lydia Andrew (Studio Head of Creative), Emelie Fuller (Software Engineer), and Raunaq Singh Sokhi (Game Designer and Product Owner for Game Modes) will take to the stage.
We sat down with Lydia Andrew to talk more about her session, titled -We Are All Game Developers First - Working Outside a Strict Discipline Delineation Model-. “At its core, this talk is all about changing the way game developers collaborate and innovate.” Lydia starts.
“This philosophy has grown out of my own work in the industry over the past couple of decades - seeing and understanding the needs and dependencies across multiple teams”, she adds. It is an invitation for developers to step beyond their specific roles and use life skills and experiences they have learned along the way to enhance the gaming experience and create great games.
In her session, Lydia will talk about how open discussions and valuing every team member can lead to not just better games but also stronger, more cohesive teams. "I want people to walk away with new ways of thinking and new tools to collaborate - in order for them to work more effectively in cross-functional teams".
In her own teams Lydia encourages an environment where all voices are heard and ideas are freely shared. Emphasizing the importance of creating a space where everyone feels comfortable to opt in rather than out. This approach is about more than just game development; it's about building a workplace culture that thrives on collaboration and creativity.
The key takeaways I hope everyone walks away with from this talk is; How to work more effectively in cross functional teams - How to collaborate and leverage everyone's abilities and life experience rather than focusing just on individual discipline expertise - and How to avoid creating a team that doesn't ask questions in the room.
Make sure to catch Lydia's talk on -We Are All Game Developers First - Working Outside a Strict Discipline Delineation Model- at 'For Devs' Game Summit Sweden on Thursday the 24!
